Seth Gordon brought us a revamp on ’90s favourite, Baywatch, in the form of the most beautifully cast film of the year. I do not think critics are expecting much from this comedy flick – however, I really enjoyed the light-hearted nature of this film.
Baywatch follows the new Mitch Buchannon, played by Dwayne Johnson, Lieutenant of the lifeguards at the Bay and his team of new recruits through their training. The new team are forced to dive into the deep-end when a new business mogul moves to town and brings with her some unsavoury business practices.
Naturally, business mogul Victoria Leeds, played by Priyanka Chopra, has not only extreme sex appeal but also an extreme taste for crime – and apparently not much for discretion. Mich risks it all to solve the easiest case of the century and put a stop to Leeds’ drug empire.
Unlike some of the funnier comedies of this era, like ‘The Hangover’, I feel as though the writers of Baywatch have put minimal effort into the storyline and opted to jam the script with sophomoric jokes. I personally enjoyed the childish banter through the film, however, it may not be to everyone’s taste.
For those of you out there looking for a break from the serious and mind-boggling films we have been graced with this year, then I would definitely give this film a go. It’s not going to have you rolling on the floor in laughing fits, but it will provide a good looking break from a stressful day in the office.
