Evans & Peel, London’s original Detective Agency themed cocktail bar have recently launched their brand new smokehouse menu to rebrand themselves as not just an expert cocktail bar but also into a destination restaurant. Evans & Peel has two locations in London, the Detective Agency in Chelsea and Pharmacy in Chiswick, both will be launching a new Smokehouse menu featuring a selection of southern American dishes all made daily using their own in-house smoker, as well as a small plate led bar menu alongside their stellar, innovative cocktail list.
On arrival we were greeted by our host in true investigative form, as Detective Agency suggests, to set the mood for both my guest and I as we were keen to see what the remainder of the evening had in store for us. We started the night off with cocktails in which there was a range to suit everyone’s drink tastes and staff were happy to help us out when we weren’t too sure of what to order.
The Smokehouse consists of regional BBQ dishes from Carolina style pulled pork, via St Louis with cut pork spare ribs, all the way to Texas style brisket, and Pulled eggplant and mushroom brisket all served with pickles, buttermilk potatoes, BBQ beans and slaw, as well as house sauces. We went for it all, with the exception of the spare ribs, and the food completely took us by surprise with how good it was, especially accompanied by the Evans and Peels’ home-made Mac n Cheese which I would highly recommend.
The relaxed ambience of the venue is perfect for intimate date nights or a quiet night out with friends. You’ll certainly be whisked away to an era of 1920’s American prohibition with the quirky props and original vintage furniture while enjoying your evening dining and drinking your way through the menus.
