Book Club (Friday 1st June)
While summer is the time of the year for blockbusters, smaller films still come out in this period and Book Club is the latest of these smaller movies to come out. However, while Book Club is smaller in scope compared to the summer blockbusters, it has a powerhouse cast of legends in the film industry such as Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Richard Dreyfuss and Candice Bergen. Book Club is clearly being made for and marketed towards an older generation of people so it will probably not be a giant hit at the box office but this will not matter to those who like the film.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (Wednesday 6th June)
The first Jurassic Park is beloved by many and those who adore the film are steadfast in their belief that it is one of the best Steven Spielberg films. I do not think it is one of his best films, but I think Jurassic Park is fantastic and that itself is proof of how incredible a director Steven Spielberg is. That film launched a franchise but no film in this franchise has been anywhere near the same level of quality as the original. Jurassic World was an okay film in my opinion but my experience with the film did not leave me desperate for a sequel.
Still, the fantastic box office results for Jurassic World meant that a sequel was an inevitability and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the sequel we will get to watch in UK cinemas. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom which is directed by J. A. Bayona and it will be interesting to see if it is an improvement over Jurassic World. The trailers have not signalled that to me, but we will have to wait and see.
