New Films In UK Cinemas: 30th March – 5th April

Mar 31 2018 BY Andrew Turner

Blockers (Friday 30th March)

I would contest that great comedies have not been forthcoming in recent times. I liked The Big Sick a lot but nothing from the comedy genre has, for me, really set the world on fire since 22 Jump Street in 2014. That film, as well as the original, are eminently re-watchable comedies and it would be fantastic if we could get new comedies on the same level of, or close to, the quality of films like those in the Jump Street franchise.

Hopefully, Blockers can be that film. This comedy stars Leslie Mann and John Cena and focuses on a trio of parents who attempt to stop their daughters from having sex for the first time on prom night. Clearly, the premise could make for some hilarious moments and an entire film about “cock blocking” could be very funny.

Isle of Dogs (Friday 30th March)

Wes Anderson is a unique film director. His films are quirky and original and he has developed a loyal fan base thanks to the success of films such as RushmoreThe Royal Tenenbaums and The Grand Budapest Hotel. He also made Fantastic Mr. Fox which is a stop motion animation film and he has another one of these films coming out in the form of Isle of Dogs.

The film takes place in Japan and we follow a young boy named Atari who searches for his dog after the entire species is banished to an island after an illness outbreak. Any fan of Wes Anderson, dogs and/or animated films should be excited to see Isle of Dogs, especially as it has a tremendous voice cast which includes Bryan CranstonBill MurrayJeff GoldblumScarlett JohanssonHarvey Keitel and Frances McDormand.
