New Films In UK Cinemas: 4th May – 10th May

I Feel Pretty (Friday 4th May)

Comedy is a genre of film that is, for me, incredibly subjective. One person can find a particular comedy absolutely hilarious and another person can see it as one of the worst films ever made. Because of this, seeing a comedy can be a risk but it is one worth taking. The latest comedy to be released in UK cinemas is I Feel Pretty which stars Amy Schumer and Michelle Williams. The premise of the film is that an insecure woman gains an incredible amount of self-confidence after suffering a head injury. A film like I Feel Pretty will attempt to portray uplifting themes in a comedic fashion and it will be you alone who decides whether the film succeeds in doing this.

Lean on Pete (Friday 4th May)

One film can announce an actor/actress as a major talent and launch his/her career in the entertainment industry. If the reviews for Lean on Pete are anything to go by, then the career of Charlie Plummer is going to go from strength after strength. His performance as Charley Thompson in this film has been heavily praised and the story of Lean on Pete focuses on Charley, a 15-year-old boy who forms a bond with an ageing racehorse. After learning that the horse will be put down, he takes the horse for himself and the two embark on a journey across the American frontier. Clearly, it looks as though this film is telling a unique coming-of-age story that could very well end up being very emotional.

Tully (Friday 4th May)

A film like Lean on Pete could be a surprise package and the same could be said for Tully which, for me, has not been a film that has been widely marketed. I had not heard of Tully until very recently and I was surprised at this when I saw that Charlize Theron plays the lead character in the film. Any film with her as the lead, in my eyes, should be extremely marketable to the general audience. The story of Tully focuses on Marlo (Charlize Theron), a struggling mother who hires a night nanny called Tully (Mackenzie Davis) to help her out with the kids and the two form a friendship.
