‘Unique cocktails and a local feel’ – A Review of Clapham’s Brick & Liquor

Nov 18 2017 BY Jovanne Campbell

Located just a short walk from Clapham South station, Brick & Liquor offers a bustling local cocktail bar concept, serving unique cocktail creations alongside their ‘Social Eats’ menu of sharing plates.  Staying true to their name, the venue features original brickwork and reclaimed wood panelling, alongside brass fixtures, fittings and pendant lighting. Even the bar utensils, cocktail shakers, measurers and kitchen lamps are a warm rustic copper. The end result is a look which is warm, soft, cosy and inviting.

With bar staff always on hand to help, the explanation of the menu on arrival ensures that guests choose a cocktail thats perfect for them based on their mood with a variety of choice available in a quadrant of comforting, adventurous, strong and refreshing. Cocktails include thoughtful classic twists such as the popular ‘Salted Caramel Espresso Martini’, alongside unique creations such as the ‘Nine & A Half Weeks’; a blend of Havana 3 rum, orange curacao, white vermouth and orange bitters, aged for nine and a half weeks within a Merlot and IPA conditioned oak cask.

The ‘Social Eats’ aspect consists of finger friendly sharing plates. All dishes are identically priced at £6 (small) and £9 (large). The menu takes influence from Europe and Asia and it has to be said that the popular Chorizo & Mozzarella Arancini is the standout plate that we would highly recommend. Mixed with Crumbed risotto croquettes, stuffed with mozzarella and chorizo, served with a white truffle mayo. The Carnivore Platter is the perfect serving for two and for meat lovers with Teriyaki Steak Skewers, Chicken Lollipops, Pincho Moruno Lamb and Rum & Coke Ribs on offer, served with home roasted focaccia and Brick & Liquor dips.

All in all, if you’re ever in this part of south London looking for an intimate venue, relaxed vibe and great cocktails, Brick and Liquor is the spot for you. With Clapham High Street not too far away, it would also make for a great spot to start your night before moving onto the mayhem that the high street has on offer.
